DM Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine (Doctor of Medicine in Nuclear Medicine) is a postgraduate Medicine course. This branch of medical imaging uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose and determine the severity of or treat a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders, and other abnormalities within the body.

The professionals in this field employ specially designed gamma cameras that detect and image the radiations emitted by the radiotracers injected into the human body. Nuclear medicine is a safe, painless, and cost-effective way of gathering information that may otherwise be unavailable or require a more expensive and riskier diagnostic test.

Eligibility Criteria for DM Therapeutic Nuclear Medicine

1. Aspiring candidates should have passed an M.B.B.S. degree from a recognized university board.

2. The applicant must hold a bachelor’s or associate degree in nuclear medicine or related courses such as physics or chemistry to pursue a postgraduation program.

3. Some of the reputed institutes conduct entrance examinations for admission.

4. The persons with benchmark disabilities shall be given an upper age relaxation of five years for admission to DM/M.Ch for PWD candidates as per the Right of Persons with Disability Act, 2016.

Admission Process

1. Admission is based on merit and eligibility criteria.

2. Usually, the admission process for the majority of courses starts in the month of April and ends in the month of September. However, for many courses, the admission process is through an entrance exam or counseling process.

3. Candidates who are 50 percentile or above (as per the decision of the meeting of the Academic Committee in the written test, seats advertised will be called for departmental clinical/practical/lab based assessment.

The Course helps to identify the disease in its earliest stage, often before symptoms occur or abnormalities can be detected with other diagnostic tests.
